we are justified by grace, not by what we have done? The same teaching is found in other parts of the New Testament (e.g., in Matt. 16:27; Eph. 6:8; 2 Tim. 4:14; 1 Pet. 1:17; Rev. 22:12). But there is no contradiction. Justification is indeed a gift received through faith in Christ. But God’s assessment of our justified lives is made on the basis of what we have been and done.
